Full Moon in Cancer – emotional nurturing vs practical authority
The Full Moon this month occurs on Saturday 22 December 2018 or Sunday 23 December 2018 depending on where you live, with the Moon at 00°49′ Cancer and the Sun opposite at 00°49′ Capricorn, which is exact at 4:48 am Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT/Sydney time) on Sunday 23 December 2018.
In Los Angeles it is exact on 22 December at 9:48 pm (PDT), in New York on 22 December at 12:48 pm (EDT) and in London on 22 November at 5:48 pm (BST).
This is the second of five full moons in a row at 00° degrees, so could be an emotional Full Moon with a beginning (00° degrees) and ending (full moon) in the mix – something in the feeling realm may be coming to an end in your life to pave the way for a new beginning.
Full Moons are a cycle of release, culmination and completion, so if you have any personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) or angles (particularly the ‘cross of matter’ – ASC/DSC (1/7 house cusps) and IC/MC (4/10 house cusps) between 0-5 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) you may feel this full moon more intensely than others.
Cancer is a sensitive Water sign, so hopefully we will be feeling emotional in a positive way as we celebrate Christmas and the New Year. You may be thinking about your home and personal or family life, and issues around nurturing, caring and protecting those you love (Moon in Cancer) as opposed to controlling and ordering your work, career, status and achievements in the world (Sun in Capricorn). In particular, you may be reflecting on whether you have the balance right in your inner and outer worlds.
There could therefore be a push-pull between feelings of emotional attachment and involvement with clan, versus pragmatic productivity, self-sufficiency, ambition and independence in the professional world.
With the nodal axis now moving across the Cancer-Capricorn axis over the next 18 months or so, we will have the eclipses falling in these signs, the first being a Solar Eclipse in Capricorn at 15°25′ on 5/6 January 2019. The next New Moon is therefore kicking of the first of two eclipse seasons for the year.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful, safe and happy Christmas and New Year, and thank you all for your support this year. Best wishes for 2019.
