Total Lunar Eclipse in Leo 20/21 January 2019 – dramatic changes

The first 2019 Full Moon, as a Total (Blood) Lunar Eclipse, falls at 00°52′ of the sign of Leo, on 21 January 2019 at 4:16 pm, Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time or AEDT (Sydney/Melbourne time). In other parts of the world, it falls on 20 January 2019 at 9:16 pm in Los Angeles, 21 January at 12:16 am in New York, and on 21 January at 5:16 am in London.

This is the final eclipse falling across the Leo / Aquarius axis for approximately 18 years, as the nodal axis entered the Cancer / Capricorn polarity on 8 November 2018 for an 18 months stay. This is therefore a time of completion in the areas of life where the eclipse falls for you given the ending of this sequence, and a new beginning; as again we have a lunar eclipse at 00° of a sign.

Any ending could contain emotional drama since the sign of Leo is associated with drama and self-expression, and eclipses themselves are wildcards which can have emotionally (Moon) intense and unexpected changes. Compounding the potential for unexpected change, this eclipse makes a T-square configuration with the modern ruler of Aquarius, Uranus, planet of radical change, disruption and volatility. Whilst on the one hand this could be freeing, liberating and exciting, creating space, it could also, ‘throw things up in the air’ as lightning strikes – creating severance and separation to situations that were seemingly stable.

Where does the eclipse fall for you, affecting the following areas of life:

1-7 House axis – Relationships – the self and other; “I” and “we”

2-8 House axis – Resources – personal values, material goods, material possessions and security, and shared resources, possessions, emotional intimacy, and transformation

3-9 House axis – The mind – communication, language, facts, siblings, short journeys and beliefs, philosophies, higher education, long journeys, teaching

4-10 House axis – Parents – home, roots, past, heritage, family, parents, foundations and vocation, status, authority, career

5-11 House axis – Creativity, recreation, children, play, pleasure, romance, self-expression and community, groups, friendships, shared goals, projects, social reform and allies

6-12 House axis – Service work – everyday life, health, craft, daily routines and rituals, colleagues, pets and surrender, retreat, the mystical, institutions, the unconscious.

The next eclipse season starts in early July 2019, and the next New Moon falls on 4/5 February 2019.
