New Moon in Scorpio – 27/28 October 2019 – liberating stagnation

October’s New Moon falls at 04°24′ of the sign of Scorpio, on 28 October 2019 at 2:38 pm in Sydney (see chart below). In other parts of the world, it falls on 27 October 2019 at 8:38 pm in Los Angeles, 27 October 2019 at 11:38 pm in New York, and on 28 October 2019 at 3:38 am in London.

New Moons are a time when the Sun and the Moon come together (called making a conjunction), and are a time to set an intention and goal for the new emotional cycle ahead.

During this New Moon in Scorpio we may honour the process of transformation; death, renewal, rebirth and regeneration in the cycle of life.

The sign of Scorpio:

From approximately October 23 until November 21 each year, the Sun occupies the sign of Scorpio, which has the Scorpion as it’s glyph or symbol. Scorpio has a Fixed quality or mode. The Fixed modality signifies the middle of the seasons in the tropical zodiac.

Fixed energy is steadfast, stable, routine, regular, and has a sense of pattern.

With Scorpio, imagine unabiding, intense, emotional depth and loyalty, since Scorpio is one of the signs which is connected with the Water Element; concerning feelings and emotions, instinct, intuition and sensitivity. Some keywords for Scorpio include: passion, resourcefulness and power. Scorpio is also associated with being determined, having staying power and strength of will, however complete transformation may occur through crisis. Further Scorpio expressions are: being secretive, jealous and possessive, being unforgiving and seeking revenge – having a “sting in the tail.”

Scorpio rulerships

Scorpio in modern astrology is ruled by the planet Pluto. Pluto is known as “the Lord of the Underworld,” and represents encountering the dark, feeling life, the reforming urge, endings and beginnings, power and control, spiritual growth and the subconscious mind.

Scorpio in traditional astrology is ruled by the planet Mars. Mars is the fiery planet associated with action, initiation, assertion- even aggression, competition, will, courage and drive. He is the ‘warrior’ who helps us go after what we want with a fighting spirit.

Mars square Saturn

At the time of this New Moon Mars is in the sign of his ‘Detriment’ or ‘Exile’, Libra. This is where independent, competitive Mars needs to negotiate and compromise with others to keep the peace.

Saturn remains in his home sign of Capricorn where he is in ‘Dignity’ or ‘Domicile.’ Saturn expresses his energy easily in this sign (whereas Mars (me) does not in Libra (we)). Mars rules a sign of fierce independence, Aries, where opposing sign Libra is concerned with balance, harmony, co-operation and fair-mindedness. Saturn represents authority, structure, realism, organisation, ambition, commitment and tradition. He is concerned with rules, limits, restrictions, boundaries, limits and learning lessons. He is slow, steady and cautious, even fearful. Ruling a sign of hierarchy, Capricorn, we need to be patient and controlled in achieving material success and worldly status.

With Mars in Libra squaring Saturn in Capricorn, we need to mobilise, realising we need a plan or strategy, and that there may be obstacles or walls standing in our way, blocking our path. We could feel angry and disappointed that things aren’t going as fast as we’d like; just remember to stay patient and disciplined for the long haul.

New Moon opposite Uranus in Taurus

Scorpio opposes the Fixed Earth sign of Taurus, sharing themes of possession, attachment and desire, only Scorpio demonstrates these issues emotionally (Water) rather than materially (Earthy Taurus). Change is difficult to effect. However, with Uranus in Taurus, we can be ‘shaken up,’ and have the earth move beneath our feet.

This New Moon is exactly opposite the planet of surprise and excitement, Uranus. Breakdowns, breakthroughs, breaking out of chains, liberation, shock and disruptions are all possibilities. If you are hanging on to old emotional energy, let go and set a goal to release it.
