New Moon in Virgo 17 September 2020 – effortless perfection
September’s New Moon falls at 25°00′ of the sign of Virgo, on 17 September 2020 at 9:00 pm in Sydney (please see chart below).
In other parts of the world, it falls at 4:00 am in Los Angeles, 7:00 am in New York, and at 12:00 pm in London.
New Moons are a time when the Sun and the Moon come together (make a conjunction), and are a time to set an intention for the new emotional cycle ahead.
This New Moon in diligent Virgo is a positive one since it makes an easy, flowing, harmonious trine to wisdom-seeking Jupiter, transformational Pluto and taskmaster Saturn – all in Capricorn. Since this is an Earth trine, it is a good time to plant a seed around practical, grounded, constructive methods of doing things, and building and manifesting your desires in the material world.
The sign of Virgo
From August 23 until September 22, 2020 the Sun occupies the sign of Virgo, the Virgin or Maiden. Virgo has a Mutable quality or mode. The Mutable modality signifies the end of the seasons, when the weather is more in flux. Mutable energy represents flexibility, adaptability, versatility and changeability. Virgo is one of the signs which is also associated with the Earth element concerning stability, organisation and predictability.
Some keywords for Virgo include: analytical, discriminating, orderly, effective, sorting the “wheat from the chaff,” assimilating, and developing the skills and techniques of our craft. Virgo is also concerned with daily work, health and nutrition. Virgoans however may be too fussy and perfectionistic and overly concerned with details – or too picky when dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the ‘t’s.
Planetary rulership – Mercury
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet which rules the rational mind and mental function. Mercury is associated with communication, speech, language, writing, connecting with others, intelligence and the efficient use of information in its exchange and application.
In the body, Virgo rules the intestines and Mercury rules the mind and nervous system. Therefore for Virgoans, there can be a tendency for digestive upsets from nervous causes, producing acidity and other digestive issues.
Mercury in Libra is exactly square Jupiter in Capricorn at this New Moon, so think BIG and make ‘no-limit’ plans for the future. Mercury is also making an inconjunct (150°) angle to Neptune in Pisces; which is also opposing the New Moon. Use your creative imagination to visualise your future.
Neptune in Pisces (opposite Virgo)
Neptune, planet of illusion, delusion, imagination and spirituality is currently transiting Virgo’s opposite sign, Pisces, its home sign (in Dignity) thereby strengthening its position. From 2011 until 2026 people with personal planets especially in Virgo will feel the effects of this transit as Neptune moves within a 5° orb of their natal planets. You may feel more idealistic than usual, be deceived by others, or experience self-deception. You may also feel either confused or inspired, with the lines of precision and orderliness blurring at times, experiencing impracticality. This is a good time to surrender to a higher reality, learn to meditate, and to tap into your intuition – have faith and trust it. Your body may become more sensitive too, so be more careful with any drugs. If Neptune opposes your Sun, your ego and identity is being dissolved, and you may become more sensitive to the development of, and surrendering to, your spiritual purpose.
Venus square Uranus
Venus in Leo is square Uranus in Taurus at this New Moon, where some of us might suddenly like to have more independence, space and freedom in a relationship.
The fly in the ointment for this month (and next) is Retrograde Mars in Aries, where the assertion and drive of our individual ‘warrior’ selves tensely squares off with Saturn in Capricorn, where the red planet meets the repression of the long arm of the law, including the government power of lockdowns. This will continue until 13/14 November when Mars turns direct at 15°14′ of Aries.
The people most affected by this New Moon are those with planets or important angles at 25° or up to 3° either side (22°-28°).
