Partial Solar Eclipse in Leo 11 August 2018 – unleash your creative power

The New Moon and (another) partial Solar Eclipse this month occurs at 7:57 pm (Sydney time – AEST) with the Sun and Moon coming together at 18 degrees and 41 minutes of the sign of Leo. (Adjust for your time zone – in Los Angeles it occurs at 2:57am, New York at 5:57 am, and in London at 10:57 am).

This is the final eclipse for the year and the last solar eclipse in Leo until 2026. Eclipses can be intense, dramatic ‘wildcards’ if they impact your chart, dredging up anything buried, repressed or denied from the unconscious to be brought into the light of consciousness for resolution.

Leo rules creativity, love and romance, children, generosity, play, fun, joy, loyalty, and being proud, grand and confident. Being ruled by the Sun, Leos can enjoy the limelight and being centre-stage. Acting and performing are attributed to this sign.

A new beginning and new emotional cycle could occur in the area and House position where the new moon falls. For instance, if it falls in your 7th House, there may be a new beginning in your one to one partnerships – either marriage or business. Or you could bring more of some of the above Leonine qualities to the relationship.

Communication planet Mercury is currently retrograde and conjunct the eclipse point at 14 degrees Leo, giving us the opportunity to review our thoughts, to be contemplative and deliberate in our thinking. Discussions however may become heated (Leo is a Fire sign) and dramatic.

Planetary Retrogrades:

Not only is Mercury retrograde (appearing to move backwards in the sky from our point of view on Earth) until August 19, 6 out of a possible 8 planets will also be in retrograde motion at the time of the eclipse (the Sun and the Moon are never retrograde). Therefore any new beginning comes with a review of existing projects and plans, especially since personal planet and planet of outward action Mars remains retrograde until August 27.

Uranus, the ‘Great Awakener’ and planet of destabilisation, surprises and upsets, turns retrograde on 7 August. Whenever a planet stations to change direction it’s influence intensifies. Separations, unpredictable and sudden change, breakdowns and breakthroughs could all feature around eclipse time too. People may need more space to do their own thing, wanting their freedom and disrupting the status quo. With revolutionary Uranus taking a jackhammer to steadfast Taurus we are also  witnessing more shaking up of the earth – the most recent earthquake being in Lombok, Indonesia, on the day Uranus stations.

If your birthday falls on August 11 or 5 days either side, or the eclipse aspects any of your personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) or angles, (especially the axis forming the ‘Cross of Matter’ (Ascendant / Descendant / IC /MC), this could be a year of significant new beginnings.

The next full moon falls in Pisces on August 26, just before Mars turns direct on August 27.
