Eclipse season continues! Following the recent New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aquarius, the Full Moon and Total Lunar Eclipse occurs on Tuesday 3 March 2026, with the Sun at 12°54′ Pisces and the Moon in the opposite sign of Virgo at 12°54.′ It is exact at 10.38pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT).
You may need to convert the date and time details into your time zone, which can be done here.
The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the peak of the Sun/Moon cycle. It is a good time to see fruition from the seeds planted at the time of the recent Aquarius New Moon Annular Solar Eclipse, which occurred on 17 February 2026. Full Moons are also cycles of completion or closure.
The Nodal Axis
The North Node is at 08°58′ Pisces, within a 9 degree range of the Sun, meaning the South Node is exactly opposite at 08°58′ in the sign of Virgo and conjunct the Moon, making this full moon a total, and intense, lunar eclipse. The Earth will be positioned exactly between the Sun and the Moon, with the Moon’s shadow over the Earth giving the Moon it’s ‘blood red’ colour.
Mutable mode
Both Pisces and Virgo are of the Mutable quality or mode, meaning that flexibility, adaptability, versatility and changeability comes easily for these signs.
Sun in Pisces
From Wednesday 18 February until Friday 20 March 2026, we move into the time of year where the Sun will occupy the sign of Pisces. Pisces is one of the signs (along with Cancer and Scorpio) which is associated with the Water element concerning feelings, emotions, receptivity and moodiness. Some keywords for Pisces include: sensitivity, compassion, empathy, intuition, imagination, spirituality, gentleness and romanticism.
Pisces’ planetary ruler
Pisces is traditionally ruled by the planet Jupiter. Jupiter represents faith, trust, opportunity, abundance, luck, confidence, courage, wisdom, our quest for meaning, and generosity. The need for expansion can however lead to excess, exaggeration, over-indulgence and risk-taking, and the possibility of falling prey to illusions and squandering resources.
Sun trine Jupiter aspect
The Sun is in a harmonious aspect (called a trine) with Jupiter in his Exalted sign of Cancer at 15°11′ the time of this eclipse. Jupiter is currently Retrograde and winding up this phase, going direct on 10 March 2026. This aspect highlights a flow (trine) and expansion, growth, opportunity and increased faith (Jupiter), in our sensitivity, intuition, idealism, creativity and compassion.
Moon in the sign of Virgo
At the time of this eclipse, the Moon will occupy the sign of Virgo, the Virgin or Maiden. Virgo is one of the signs (along with Taurus and Capricorn) which is also associated with the Earth element concerning stability, predictability, groundedness and practicality. Some keywords for Virgo include: analytical, discriminating, orderly, effective, a focus on sorting the “wheat from the chaff” and with developing the skills and techniques of their craft. However, this sorting may tip into being too fussy, meticulous, perfectionistic and overly concerned with details. With the Moon in Virgo there could be a need to (over)analyse our emotions.
Virgo’s planetary ruler
Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury. Mercury is associated with communication, speech, language, writing, connecting with others, intelligence and the efficient use of information in its exchange and application.
Mercury retrograde
Communication planet Mercury remains out of phase or Retrograde, swimming in the dreamy waters of Pisces at the time of this eclipse. It is in its sign of Fall where it does not function well. This placement encourages us to re-view, re-flect, re-consider and possibly re-vise our schedules, any potential miscommunications with travel, and information in general as they can be subject to snafus and misunderstandings during this time. The ‘winged messenger’ and trickster planet goes direct again on 20 March 2026, whilst still in the sign of Pisces, where obtaining information via our intuition rather than the intellect is more likely, but may not be reliable.
Moon sextile Jupiter
The Moon in Virgo will make a supportive sextile aspect to Jupiter in Cancer. This is an opportunity (sextile) for supportive growth (Jupiter) and expansion in emotions and feelings (Moon), possibly within the family or involving women.
