The Sun and Moon (the Luminaries) oppose each other at 04°54′ minutes of the sixth and twelfth signs of the zodiac, with the Sun in Virgo (the Maiden) and Moon in Pisces (the Fish), which is exact at 14:18PM Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). It is an out-of-sign eclipse, as the nodal axis has moved across the Aquarius (North Node) and Leo (South Node) axis at 29°50′ of the signs. The close degree range between the nodal axis and the Sun and Moon nevertheless makes it a Lunar Eclipse, closing out the Virgo-Pisces eclipse cycle. We are moving into the Aquarian collective, and away from the Leo ego area of life.

The sign of Virgo
From 23 August until 22 September, the Sun will occupy the sign of Virgo. Virgo has a Mutable quality or mode (along with Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces). The Mutable modality signifies the end of the seasons, when the weather is more in flux. Mutable energy represents flexibility, adaptability, versatility and changeability.
Virgo is one of the signs (along with Taurus and Capricorn) which is also associated with the Earth element concerning stability, predictability, and being grounded and practical. This eclipse also makes a close square aspect to the planet Uranus in Gemini at 05°37′, making a configuration known as a T-Square.
