On the border between Tibet and Nepal there was a major flash flood on 26 August 2026 at approximately 08.37am, taking everything in it’s path, including bridges, critical infrastructure and buildings. This is an area popular with tourists, mountaineers, and Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. Over 3000 people are currently missing, with the confirmed death toll currently standing at 750. There may also be more rain to make the terrible situation even worse.
The massive flooding, which has been captured on video as seen on countless news reports, may have been caused by a glacier collapse. An ice mass sheared off the top of a Himalayan glacier, dropping to the floor of the mountain valley. The weight of the ice was so big it registered as a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, which had people, including officials, believing the earthquake caused the catastrophic deluge.
Mars square Saturn
Mars in Cancer is closing in on a tense square aspect with Saturn in Cardinal signs Cancer and Aries, respectively, close to the Midheaven and Descendant angles in Kathmandu at the time the glacier chunk shear and flooding occurred. Both planets are considered to be ‘malefic’ or ‘bad’ planets. Saturn is associated with ambition and reaching great heights, literally and figuratively, while Mars traditionally rules separation and severing, and accidents.
Lunar Eclipse in Pisces
This tragedy happened close to the Pisces Lunar Eclipse (28 August 2026) which T-squared Uranus (disruption, breakdown, and sudden and unexpected happenings) in Gemini. Pisces is a Water sign, with the eclipse, ‘Wildcard’ intensifying water happenings and unpredictable culminations. The rapid surge of water totally obliterated everything in its path.
Further, the Lunar Eclipse cartography (map) shows a Pluto line exactly over the geographical region where the ice avalanche and ensuing flood disaster occurred. Pluto, or ‘Hades’ and ‘God of the Underworld’, rules death, rebirth and regeneration. It is a ‘clearing of the decks’ and making way for new beginnings.
The Natal chart for Nepal (not shown) was severely impacted by the Lunar Eclipse. The eclipse Sun in Virgo at almost 5 degrees was conjunct Nepal’s Natal Sun (8 degrees Virgo) conjunct Neptune (5 degrees Virgo), and tensely square the Natal Moon (6 degrees Sagittarius).
